Alpine window cut out
After a bit of advice, and I expect I know the answer.

I'm in the process of cutting alpine windows into my 90 but I have noticed that either end of the window glass is a different shape. The right hand end of both bits of glass are an even shape curve, but when I compare them to the left hand end it looks like a dog has been chewing it.

My assumption is that this is a Land Rover quality control issue in the glass manufacture, and the aperture for the roof light should be the same shape both ends.

Only one part number for left and right listed although there is both 4mm and 5mm versions Smile

Did you buy genuine glass or aftermarket? Maybe you need to return the glass

I plan to do mine (and the rear quarters) but I see that the MY goes up to 2006 only, though presume they didn't change until the end of production? Rob

The glass is the 4mm version and came off eBay, 2nd hand from a roof that was being scrapped. The make on the glass says 'sicursiv', which is the same as a mates defender that I used to take the position from.

As you can see from the picture below there is a vast difference between the left and right has side profiles, and not sure the gasket will cover it.

The only other option is to cut the hole to match the glass but one end might look a bit odd.

Sure this doesn't help your issue in any way at all, but it seems the earlier model years had thicker 5mm glass in the rear quarters at least, so maybe also the alpines, compared to later model years which have 4mm glass - or so I hear

I think indeed your answered you own question there. Regardless which shape they will leak anyway Rolling with laughter Wink
Now seriously - I would cut the same (right) aperture and fit with a good grade cauking, e.g. Sikaflex. Cheers, Vincent

Fitted the first window on Tuesday and left the gasket long so it will should compress well and no gaps should appear if it shrinks a bit.

It started to rain tonight so I will see if any water got in tomorrow morning.
