How many miles driven do you have on the clock at this time? And is the engine ok? Are these engines as good as people say?

Mine has now approx. 345k km on the clock, and no problems with the engine at all. I use it as my daily driver, next month a holiday trip to Italy (roundrip 3.5k km in a week), first a good service and distribution belt change. Thumbs Up Cheers, Vincent

@ Gmack have you checked the P gasket ? It is a common point of coolant loss on the 300 Tdi and can fail catastrophically leading to engine failure.

The good side is it,s a cheap and relatively easy fix. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Any other typical problems with this engine? And which one is better? The 300 or the td5? Any tips on what to choose for some expeditions and offrad fun?

Sorry for the newby questions but just starting my adventure with Landys. Confused Don't drive faster then your guardian angel can fly...

ive also had both. my opinion is: td5 is a much nicer engine to live with, quieter smoother more powerful easy to tune!
300tdi for me is much noisier less powerful but!!! easier to work on and an awful lot cheaper in repairs! and i think a lot less to go wrong!! tdi would be my choice for serious overlanding, but day to day td5!
only reason i went for tdi was i wanted something i could easily work on relatively cheaply!
for example, a turners cylinder head is 435+vat for a tdi. the td5 is 1000+vat!!!
i still miss my td5 though!! My 109 thread

removed front prop today just to give UJs a thorough check. all good so i greased em up and ticked it off the check list.
while i had the prop off i went for a quick drive as im getting a drone above 2000ish revs (guess-timate no rev counter) only does it under load! still doing it with front prop off but at least i can eliminate front prop UJs and diff from the search! My 109 thread

did you perchance buy this 110 from N. Kent, only I used to cycle past one regularly that was identical to the truck as you bought it, and its now gone. The chap was building a 101 in the garage. But it used to wear a galv. 'roo' bar on the front.
