After months of waiting, I finally received the Nakatanenga Rear Wheel Carrier. Good things come to those who wait
The installation was relatively simple even without any instructions aside from a picture as to what it should look like in the end. The final installation came down to trial and error, and some instructions posted by Brendan on the forum a few weeks back which instructed the removal of the rear door interior trim. First step is to effectively remove the rear trim so you can access the bolts that support the standard Defender Wheel carrier. Removing the rear trim is a question of unsrewing the grab handle beneath the window, and then gently pulling the trim starting at the top right corner and moving down and over. Rear trim removed:  Click image to enlarge Rear Support: Click image to enlarge After removing the rear support, you are then ready to attach the Nakatanenga door piece using the original wheel carriers nuts and bolts: Click image to enlarge Then it is a question of trial and error in finding what bolts to use where when attaching the wheel carrier. Nakatanenga delivers three bolt lengths. Long, medium and short. The long ones I concluded are for the extreme right. The medium for the centre, and the short bolts for the left of the carrier. Click image to enlarge Once you have bolted the wheel carrier to the cross member, it is time to connect the arm that will connect your door to the wheel carrier. This requires a little measurement and tightening, once at the right distance from the door you have two nuts that you can tighten so that your measure does not change. Click image to enlarge Once completed, you have a wheel carrier that takes the load off the door, required no drilling, allows you to open the door easily and looks good. I liked the Nakatanega bear which is discreetly etched into the metal plate visible when the wheel is mounted.

Very nice, looks like a sturdy bit of kit. Is that silver piece a support bracket for when the carrier/door is closed? if you have not done so it might be a good idea to smear some grease on it...

Looks like the hinge assembly for when you open the door. I wouldn't apply grease to that as all the crud will stick to it as it's quite exposed. The slider mechanism however I did pack full of grease to stop the crud and dampness getting in.

Geobloke, thank you for your comments. I am pretty happy with this piece of kit. The support bracket attached to the rear cross member support is not touching the wheel carrier itself when not in motion, but I suspect that when in driving it is there to provide some support. As a preventive measure I put glued a very thin strip of rubber to the support arm. This is there so that metal does not touch metal 
As per the connection to the door, it is a piece that reminds me of a mini tie-rod made for your front steering. It is a solid bit of kit, pre-greased and the rubber bushes are thick. My rear door seems a lot lighter now and the problem I had when the wheel was on the door, where sometimes the door handle would block and require more force when opening has been eliminated. Yes mine is the same principle as yours. Mine is indeed the Safari Equipement single pivot. Uncomplicated and very sturdy. Got it from a fellow forum member. 'Reworked' the bumperette bracket to get it to fit again afterwards.

Three weekends in a row of hunting in the rain with my Defender which was built with hunting in mind
and she looks like a real Defender
While out on the hunts I was thinking more of the hunt, dog etc that I did not take any pics but will try that this weekend. Click image to enlarge I had to figure out how to protect my gun safe from my dirty dog who likes the panoramic view she gets from on top of the safe  I ended taking the rear load space protector of the XC90 we got rid of and used some plastic ties to attach it to the dog and luggage guard. It lifts up and allows access to the safe while protecting the safe from my wet and dirty, yet faithful friend.

A minor change to the Hunter. Eric finally convinced me that Nokian tyres were the right choice for the winter. I had seen the Wolf wheels on his, so these were already on my wish list.
The Hunter has just received a pair of Wolf rims with Nokian LT2 tyres for the winter. They were tested on dirt roads after rain (=mud) two days after being mounted. Conclusion - they are exellent in mud - still to confim in Snow. Aside from the performance, I also believe they enhance the look of the Hunter. Click image to enlarge |

For anybody here in Switzerland who might still be interested for his Defender in a set of 4 of these winter rims and tire combo, please note that Land Rover Switzerland only have one of those sets left now. As you can imagine, with 6 children as a priority, investments in my Defender are timed. In addition, I was looking for Auxiliary lights that would be modern (led) while at the same time respect my intention to keep the "OEM" look.
After much research and a discussions with Hella in Germany, I found these: http://www.hella.com/MicroSite/offroad/UK/...LED_GB.pdf I went with these : Spotlight (heavy-duty) with black design ring, ventilation hose and T-piece 1F3 011 815-031* I find that they compliment the Noldens, are not too big on the A-Bar and above all are bright enough for my needs. Here are a few pics taken in the garage with my Iphone, so not great but posted for the benefit of SkyFallSilver

I have seen them working, fantastic. Probably worth to take a few more good pictures of when they are "on". If I did not have the SVX front, this would be my choice too.
One more comment, the posted Iphone pictures in my opinion do them not much good and are a bit misleading even. In reality they are the perfect match for the Nolden, as the diameter of both is also identical. Eric You never actually own a Defender.
