Are these worth buying? So far my underneath armour is 2x diff guards & a steering guard. What should I buy next? Tank guard? Transmission guard? ........? Stone chippings, stones flung up & branches are my main fears. Is there engine bay underneath protection made? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Get it best thing you can buy for underneath. I had 90 booked I'm for a conversion and he spoke about fitting one when the 90 was in that weekend he ripped the fuel cooler off luckily enough it didnt damage the fuel lines. The Devon one IMO is the best one on the market as we'll CSK Automotive

Also if you get a leak you marooned unless you can manage a bush fix. Branches etc are a big problem, I've had one stick through the hole in my NAS step before and one broke my rear wheel arch! I still need to sort that too.. |

Yes! Fits in less than half an hour (even if like me you haven't got a clue) and reduces the risk of damaging something that Land Rover shouldn't have made so vulnerable! Peter

Protection wise on mine I fitted heavy Duty steering arms rather than a steering guard - because the arms can be bent through impacts on the wheels (I actually broke a steering box this way), which a guard won't help with. Similarly a guard can act as a ramp to hang up the vehicle on rocks or as a plough to have the same effect on mud.
Diff wise I was concerned about mud and water being trapped against the diff by the guards - I've seen a couple of axles suffer from bad corrosion due to this. I also think if you have a good sense of the layout of the underside of the vehicle and you can read the land you can pick lines to largely avoid hitting things. Looking where you are going is the best form of protection. Just a different viewpoint for you to perhaps consider. |

Cleaning the underside thoroughly will do a lot too.
Currently I'm closing the gaps in the wheelarches so a lot less mud gets trapped in places that are hard to keep clean otherwise. I would however be interested in a complete list of possible under vehicle protection. I currently have the following: HD steering an track rods, because I bent them. Steering guard Front and back diff guards This fuel cooler guard is interesting though. Noticed my hand brake drum is a low point on my Def. Is a tank guard that necessary? Was planning on rock sliders first. What else is out there? |

D44 do a transmission guard too which protects the handbrake as well. I have been interested but never got around to it.
QT is the way to go for diff guards IMO or at least a wrap around type. Kinda pointy for me anyway as I hardly ever get the chance to greenlane. |
