Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
This morning I (reluctantly )cut a small square out of my LR mat to enable the clutch pedal to travel fully. I stuck a piece of thinner rubber on the back to stop the muck getting through and then forgot about it.

Later the missus came back from the shops and remarked how the gearbox appears to be 'loosening up nicely' as it was going into gear so much easier. So its definately not a placebo situation !

I wonder if such a simple thing is contributing to transmission issues of which there seem to be many ?
How many owners have genuine LR mats which although expensive and excellent quality are possibly too thick to allow a proper gearchange ? I don't know - maybe its not relevant but it just might be worth looking at

Removing the rubber mat made no difference to the gearchange clunks in my truck Rolling Eyes --

I would have thought that if you have to push the clutch down that far it must be nearly worn out. The biting point should be much higher up, surely..? (Disclaimer: I drive a TD5, so no idea how this compares to a Puma drivetrain)

Biting point is higher on mine too - on a Puma. I have carpets and mats and still have loads of travel Confused Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
