TomTom sat nav
thinking of buying a TomTom GO LIVE 1005M HDT from halfrauds, has anyone had any experience with this or maybe recommend an alternative. I require it to have traffic updates and lifetime maps.

Tom Tom, or Garmin, all comes down to personal experience and preference. I consider Garmin more logic in their menus and user-friendly. New Garmins often come with life time map updates included in the price, for older, and some more basic new models you can buy the lifetime map updates separately for reasonable price.
Maybe I am reviving the Tom Tom vs. Garmin yes/no discussion here again Mr. Green Do a search, you will find several threads covering this at length Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Anyways, if you want to create your own routes to drive, you are better off with Garmin.

The free Garmin software that links to Google Earth is also very good. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH

I use the TomTom apps on my iPhone and iPad Mini, pay once, install lots. I've got Western Europe, South Africa and US&Canada on one device (each is a separate app. They also do Android flavour devices as well.

The big screen on the iPad Mini is superb for navigation - inc Memory Map for OS Maps.

Since I already had the smart phone and carried it with me all the time it did make sense to get yet another box to stick to the windscreen..... 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

I have always had TomTom but not any more.

The main reason is I needed Tracks4Africa maps and this only works on Garmin so last week bought a Nuvi40 from Halfords for 70.

Plus all the other benefits already mentioned, personally Garmin for me from now on Very Happy

Much better though with the hardwire kit I made though. Get's rid of all the lighter plugs in the way and trailing wires. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

No lighter plug on my SVX Thumbs Up Actually a very neat installation by LR which they did on the SVX, including the behind the dash invisible aux speaker for the Garmin. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Good that it's between Garmin and TomTom - nice and simple Thumbs Up

TBH I'm only with TomTom because of the iPhone/Pad/Pod options... and it works fine for me. I still use Navigon on my Nokia and it leaves TomTom standing. Problem is it's discontinued and the maps are getting old Big Cry
After reading what most forum members say, if I had to buy a "lump" for the dashboard, I'd probably give Garmin a go. I also get the feeling it's what the "professionals" use Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
