for Jim at 4x4CB. Unbelievable service and so patient and helpful with it.

New to CB's and he guided me all the way with the pros & cons of each unit out there. I bought an Albrecht 6891 off him with the complete fitting kit(absolutely everything and more) which is fantastic

. Now own two of them(one in the Defender and one in the Disco). The removable head unit is a brilliant addition as we all know it is practically impossible to find decent storage space to mount a main unit out of sight.

You can't go wrong with Jim.

I have left 3 messages for 4x4cb and nothing.. are they still trading?

Need a 90 deg folding mount and aerial for my defender ASAP.

Not strictly true.

Although the power output is lower, PMR446 (licence free 0.5W) is slightly more efficient.

If you have a handheld CB and a handheld PMR446, the PMR446 will probably have a better range. The downside of PMR446 is that you can't have an external antenna as it breaches the license free rules which then makes is difficult inside a Landy, especially as Aluminium is a very good RF insulator.

That then means of course that CBs have the edge due to the external antenna. For more range, licensed PMR is the way to go with it's 5 Watts output and external antenna, but of course, you need a license (which is actually just a radio tax rather than a license) for it which means that not everyone has one. Licensed PMR also comes in UHF and VHF of which outdoor use is far better on VHF as UHF isn't that great but can penetrate buildings whereas VHF cannot.

The other thing about handhelds is that I assume they are classed as moble devices, therefore are illegal to use when driving, I believe that CBs (and also handhelds with mic attachment) are still legal to use whilst driving. Craig Rogers

. If having no luck through email try adding him on FB- just search for 4x4CB.

Another good place (I normally only deal with for HF/VHF/UHF) is Thunderpole- always been a good service too.

I was hoping my quest was a simple one but a quick google has not yet come up with the goods..

Def 90 with existing 2 way radio antenna (clearly no good for cb) but folds down along the gutter line towards the front kg the car for parking in garage etc... I just now need a similar mount and a proper cb aeriel to swap over as cb installed and ready to go...

Amswers/suggestions on a post card please

Hi,

What type of 2 way antenna? Could you post a picture of the mount/ plugs etc. might be able to do something with it.

Other than VHF/UHF or mobile phone there isn't much out there which requires an external antenna.

Thanks..

I will take a pic when back on Friday.. It seems to be an all in one joint and aerial.. I.e doesn't come apart which is annoying..

Ref the link and what you suggest.. The current mount is on the rear (side of car) top corner so those joints don't swivel forward i.e towards the front of the car, they make it swivel out,which doesn't help.. If that makes sense?
