over run ! again
Over Run again Big Cry I have read many posts on the 2.2 tdci over run when dipping the clutch ! I have been running SWB Defenders for a long time now with no problems . That is until I bought a New 2.4 tdci Defender in 2012 and from day one it had a flat spot just over 2000rpm and caused major kangeroo symtoms. It had all sort of stuff replaced and eventaully land Rover suggested that I should have a assisted car change and get in to a 2.2tdci !!!!! I specked a new car waited three months and two weeks ago it arrived ( honestly the nicest Defender I have ever driven Very Happy Oh so happy ---- for one week !
Then the over run facility (that Land Rover states is to harmonise your gear changes ? thought that was what your left leg was for) all started to go a bit wonky , with revs holding up at 1500 rpm 1750rpm and over 2000rpm . after reading some of the previous threads I disconnected the clutch switch 10/10 the car was easy to drive , no revs hanging up and perfect gear changes . Then about 25 miles later the car started kangerooing when trying to hold the revs at 1500 rpm in first or second . I then parked the car up and when it was re-started it was out of control - when you accelerated and dipped the clutch it would continue to rev on ( at least 500-600rpm higher than when you took your foot of the gas ! I pulled over and re-connected the clutch switch and it returned to normal for about 10miles then the revs started hanging up agian.
I am stuck , surely Land Rover haven't sold me another problem car Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad

Take it back and invite the Workshop Manager out for a 10 mile run and show him directly what the issue appears to be. Seems very strange/unlucky two seperate vehicles with similar issues. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Reconnect the switch before they see it. Steve.

Hi Steve and guys

Car has been back to the dealership and Service Manager has driven it and experienced a number of factors that will hopefully all relate to the one problem.
1. excessive travel on accelerator before anything happens
2. when it does start to work it snatches (like it is missing first section of revs)
3. Impossible to hold at constant revs ( not much use off road)
4. the question of the over run facility , why do the revs vary between changes so much 1500rpm to over 2000rpm
They have sent a report to Land Rover and now are waiting a reply !
Strange thing is it drove perfect , no issues for the first 400miles , so something has changed.

Cheers Ken.
