lnverter replacement
l've just had a new DC/DC inverter under warranty in my 2022 Defender D250.

lt failed at 25,000 miles.

The dealer was unable to tell me if there were any improvements made to this part, to stop it from failing.
Although l believe there's a software update for it, and the dealer said that "any updates will have been done" while it was with them.

l am considering carrying a spare inverter, as it fails without warning and renders the vehicle unusable. So if it happened in France for instance, you'd be stuck.
l used to carry a spare ECU in my Defender TD5 and it actually saved us from recovery twice.

The only issue is, when the inverter is replaced the vehicle has to be "reprogrammed" so just replacing the part would not get you mobile.

Can anyone tell me if Land Rover Assist would be able to reprogram it, or even whether you could do it with the GAP tool?

Whatever part you carry, the other one will fail. Your Td5 however had less parts so your changes of carrying the right part is increased.

Software is the new rust, the time your could fix your non working car on the side of the road are largely gone. Cars will be retired not because the battery lost capacity, but because of (planned) lack of software supposed required to repair them, after say a screen failure.

Just enjoy your car and move it on to buy a new(er) one. Maybe you will find that as you get older you realize it's all a hype and you will gravitate to simpler cars where less can go wrong

In general, the software is easily diagnosed and in most cases rectified using the GAP IID G4 tool which is available to everyone and, although fairly expensive, will pay its way many times over. Just plugging a diagnostic tool into your LR once at a main dealer will almost cover the whole cost of the G4 tool. Since it is a Canadian company I’m fairly sure it can be set to the French language.
