Maybe go a bit further with the easy start and remove the EGR and spray it straight into the intake manifold to eliminate anything turbo, intercooler or EGR related

When the vehicle initially broke down, the O/P said he found the air filter "soaked with water". l would wonder how this came about, and whether it has any bearing on the continued issues with the vehicle.

l don't know how the air filter could get soaked with water in normal operation. How could this have happened?

Ah, the air filter soaked with water! This also happened to a friend with a Defender TD5.

Basically, he had a leak in the raised air intake, and one day, in heavy rain, water was sucked in and reached the paper air filter, which disintegrated and clogged the air intake.

Do you have a high-mounted air intake? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

I question if the engine has been setup with the timing being 180 degrees out

Thinking.

Even if the timing was 180 degrees out it should still try on accelerant.

I think Shocked
