Give them a call & tell them a potential buyer has voiced their concerns over it’s ID & yes, tell them all that. You’ve nothing to hide after all.

You’ll run yourself into a decreasing spiral speculating over the “what ifs ?” - as above, call them is my advice.

If you type “ VIN identification “ into the sites search bar you will find a link which identifies the VIN characters. This gives you certain information about the vehicle as it left the factory ( country, date of manufacture, body type etc).
Hopefully this may help you determine if the vehicle is correct. It may be as simple as a previous owner replacing a VIN plate.

Sorry, can’t point you to the specific link, as I have never worked out how to do it.

As a vehicle manufacturer you are obligated to keep record of serial numbers for certain components, typically related to safety or if they are a sizeable part of the vehicle. I’m sure LR can supply you either at least the TC and front and rear axle number. If they check out alright you can probably relax a bit.
In Sweden I doubt we could weld the chassis id onto the frame and if it was possible and done correct there would be an official paper trail with the authorities.

It looks ok to me, but what do I know. Maybe it needed a new servo and someone scrapped the old one and the plate, maybe not realising it’s needed. Perhaps then a new one was obtained to replace the missing one and hand stamped. I’ve not seen the one in dash but maybe it got corroded and took off because it was loose, even sucked up in the hoover. You can look up the main number, the digits mean different things for example gearbox type, body format engine size etc. From this you can assess whether you’re truck matches the number. Try looking up Land Rover vin decoder. I did this with mine and it all matched. Some of it doesn’t now, but it did when I got it. Mines old, but the axle casings have codes stamped onto them which indicates a time frame in years, as does the transfer box number and gearbox number. Obviously all of these parts could have been replaced at some point. 1983 110 automatic OM606

If anything is wrong with the VIN plate, the examiner will notify you next time you go for an MOT. A few years ago, I failed an MOT because the VIN plate was not riveted in place, just stuck on with double-sided tape after I replaced the brake box. Most MOT examiners are very keen on VIN plates. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

The VIN is stored inside the ECU. Use a code reader to pull that VIN and see if it matches.

Have scanned ECU vin matches ok got build sheet data looked very carefully and all seems to match it was a poverty spec 110 so no abs/traction , electric windows etc it all seems to match on looking through company that owned it joob sheets it mentions o broken door frame and then repair I know of this repair when I bought I noticed poor welded repair so even old MOT mentions small chip in window drivers side and it's still there. But I can't explain terrible vin plate and plate welded to chassis that has been restamped only thing I can think of is as they had a few landys their workshop did a bit of mixing and matching without any care in providing paperwork and clear details of work done I feel a bit of plonker not noticing Censored vin plate at the time I thought ok 3 owner and lots of paperwork seemed ok still researching trying to find auction details but no joy yet as it was about 8 years ago have loved this car and want to go to a Landy enthusiast but don't want to pass on anything that is possibly dodgy not sure what to do worried if I contact DVLA it could be stuck on driveway for months while it's investigated and are they gonna find out any more than I have I doubt it Endeavour To Persevere

You have a Landy with a repaired/replacement chassis, no big deal. Relax.

I think this is pretty likely. These things are pretty fragile in the grand scheme of things - and in a location where they’re liable to catch on clothes etc if you’ve got the bonnet up/off and are leaning into the back of the engine.

In my case, mine is almost snapped in two, so I have ‘gaffer taped’ it down. Donald
