Retrofit adjustable headlight
I have a 1991 110 CSW which has had LED headlights fitted (JW Speaker) by the previous owner, the trouble is, they are hopeless. I now know the reason they are hopeless is that the beam has been set based on a fully loaded vehicle, so when it is not fully loaded they are far too low. Now I get that this is the safe approach, no matter what you do you cannot blind someone.

My thinking is, I am sure later defenders had a headlight adjuster knob in the cab, and I am wondering how hard that system would be to retrofit. I am hoping it is just a power feed to the control switch feeding down a set of wires to a motor in each headlight bowl (guessing the headlight bowl is different as well). Has anyone ever done this? Any idea on what parts I actually need as opposed to by guesswork? I've see a thread where someone has retrofitted it to a TD5 where the wiring was already there, but can't find anyone who has done it from scratch.

Found this https://www.lrworkshop.com/electrics/defen...-levelling

Looks like my worry that an ECU was involved somewhere was unfounded. So I think my shopping list is:

1. Levelling switch
2. Pair of headlamp bowls that will take the motors
3. Pair of motors
4. Connectors for motors
5. Connect for switch
6. Some wire

If I then pick up the feed from the sidelights and an earth, add a liberal dose of swearing, it should all be good. Decision now is either to try and find someone breaking a late Defender that has all the bits or to buy new (though I suspect the connectors my be a challenge to find....)

Hi, once you have the required hardware the wiring should be pretty simple - a nice one pager below from the Td5 wiring diagram. The connectors for the head lamp levelling motors are part number YPC10426. The 6 way connector for the switch might be harder to source - its part number is YPC10004 but you won't find it anywhere. PaulMc posted this on another forum some time back -

Eastern Beaver also sell a 6-way .250" (6.3mm) Yazaki connector that is dimensionally identical to the correct Sumitomo connector and is a perfect fit for this switch

Ref: Connector Set 6PF250 for $4.73 + P&P, here -
