Capping off braided lines
If got them famcy Pioneer flexi pipes to the front calipers so I can't clamp them off to remove the calipers. Any other ideas on how to keep the fluid in the system? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Wedge the pedal down and/or seal the reservoir cap so no air can get in.

I've tried the sealing of the cap method before and it didn't work, not sure why,

How does pressing the pedal down work? Does it need to go to the floor? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I had some spare unions knocking around, I think i used female for the rear pipe to rear caliper and male for the front hose - flared up a short bit of 3/8 brake pipe and bashed the other end closed and folded it over and it sealed ok. Stayed on there for 2 weeks whilst doing work and no drips. 1953 80"

When the pedal is pressed fluid cannot pass from the reservoir to the cylinder.

Another approach would be to disconnect the hard lines from the (inboard end of the) hoses and cap them off promptly.

You're inevitably going to lose some fluid whatever you do but it shouldn't be much.

Yes, I don't mind loosing a bit 9f fluid, but just don't want to drain the system. It happened to me before and bleeding through the ABS was a real pain.

I don't prefer to find a way to seal it off with some unions as suggested. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Thanks, in which case I can get a pack for next to nothing in Halfords. I've got some copper brake line and a flaring tool so should be able to make something useful up 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Interesting topic for me as I have the same brake lines and have often wondered what I’d do the next time I needed to disturb the system.

I’d be grateful if you’d post a pic or two of what you come up with - save my ageing brain! Donald

Contrary to popular belief It is safe to clamp braided brake lines as long as you use a rounded clamp ! these brake lines can withstand huge pressures and all you are doing to stop the brake fluid is gently squeezing the line together. this type of brake line is a lot stronger than you think .

I would think they are ok as they dont have a v shaped/sharp edge, just remember you only have to nip them up to stop the brake fluid dripping dont overdo it.
the brake system is not under any pressure so you will be ok.
