300 TDi AirBox Clamps
My 300 TDi does not have any clamps on the airbox, secured with cable ties, the original replacements are £100 each. Does anyone know if the clamps for the wolf airbox fit, they are £30 each 1995 Defender 110 300 TDi Hard Top Rutland Red

I don’t think they will I’m afraid. I think the Donaldson/Wolf filter canister is a larger diameter. I think the standard canister wouldn’t be held properly.

That said, there’s nothing really wrong with substantial tie wraps, and you could probably buy the Wolf straps and modify it. I think I’d want some rubber bobbin mountings in there somewhere. Donald

Can't tell you about the donaldson's im afraid, but i got a pair from an auction site after spending ages looking also, very hard to find.

They were £78 each (ERR4688) plus a fiver for cotton reels, previouslt it was held in by one seatbelt like rubber strap sat on the metal mounting plate, they have made a noticeable reduction in rattles for me.

Yes my engine bay is a work in progress Smile

the pipe that goes form the dump into the airbox is completely shredded wondered if that is due to the airbox vibrating cos it isn't held down 1995 Defender 110 300 TDi Hard Top Rutland Red

Hiya,

Yes the bobbins are the rubber feet you can see under the clamps, they are quite flexible compared to the single! old one i had on there.

I am not sure which pipe you mean that is shredded?
There is one intake pipe into the bottom of the airbox (from the snorkel on mine)
Then the big pipe you see on my pic goes direct to the turbo (i changed mine for a non-egr one as the stock one has a small open pipe on the top and it was starting to go a bit crusty.

There is the pipe from the black plastic crank ventilation thingy on the head that goes underneath and into the pipe from box to turbo, this is clamped to the back of the head just out of view.

thanks
James

Hiya,

Yes that section definitley needs replacing and could very well be because of airbox moving, i could see it rubbing on the side of the mount plate (you have half of your cotton reels there Smile )

It also looks like a think pipe, i am not sure which is stock however being new to 300tdi's myself, mine have all been replaced with silicone hose.

But for sure the new clamps are reels hold it nice and snug, they are ££ but worth it in my opinion as a one off thing.

thanks
James

I think it is the original hose, I have a replacement, couldn't find silicon hoses for that particular hose, does it need to be flexible? just ordered some used straps/brackets of Ebay and some bobbins,

many thanks

I dont think it needs to the flexible no, at least not much, the airbox moves 1/2" on the cottonreels and the dump pipe is on a bracket at the wing side i believe.

Make sure to check them all if you are doing them, a couple of mine were delaminating badly (inc the main airbox to turbo hose) and dont forget the bonnet comes off, i spent an hour trying to fiddle behind there laid on the rocker cover before the mrs said ' hey does that come off' Smile

thanks
James
