Autoglass for heated windscreen?
Hi all

Has anyone on here used Autoglass to replace a heated front windscreen on their Defender? How did you find them? Did they do a decent job?

Thanks

Jim

I Went through what seemed like lots of screens over the yrs and used whatever company was assigned to the windscreen insurance , usually Autoglass. I’d always called to remind them that’s it’s a Landrover windscreen and to make sure the fitter has string as he’d be fitting it ‘Old school’. If he’s coming to your home then YOU do the cleaning around the frame inside and out when it’s lifted out. If your old seal is cracked or perished then insist that it comes with and is fitted with a new one. You’ll have to call the autoglass shop to make this happen.

Keith.

I had a new heated screen fitted by Autoglass earlier this year...The fitting was done on my own drive and was fortunately carried out by a very experienced fitter who was familiar with Defenders. So far no leaks and in fact he used a glazing sealant as well as the genuine Land Rover replacement rubber seal to be able to be confident it wouldn't leak.

Make sure you insist on the genuine Land Rover rubber seal. Autoglass will by default just supply the much cheaper after market seal. The genuine seal is about £150 against £10 (you might need to pay the difference?) for the after market one, but the difference in the two seals makes a huge difference to fitting the glass. The genuine one is much more supple and will last years longer than the after market one.
