Wipers stops on dry windscreen otherwise works fine.
My wipers will stop mid sweep on a dry screen. I swapped a new motor two years ago for the same issue. I assumed it was a weakened motor. New wheel boxes were also installed two years ago. Was thinking I was going to remove, clean and grease up the motor but that had no effect on the old one before I swapped it out.

Any thoughts on what else to check before I dig into this and or go for another motor?? This time I’m gonna change the rack as well if I open up the dash. 2000 110 Td5 with AC (LHD).

Normally a sign of wheel box and /or worm cable damage,(the cable the driving the wheel boxes). My original wheel boxes lasted 13 years….. my replacements (genuine) 6 !! I had exactly the same symptoms beginning of the year……. Worked for 3 weeks then jammed up when needed Big Cry my initial thoughts was motor or electrical cable damage, but I replaced wheel boxes and worm cable with new genuine again, and problem sorted. Wheel boxes appeared fine but there was some wear/damage on the worm cable where the passenger wheel boxes sits.
You made no mention of the worm cable being replaced, or is that what you’re referring to as the rack? so that would be my starting point, I’d replace with new genuine, and make sure it’s cleaned and the carriers and packed with clean grease

Thanks I’ll verify the wheel boxes as being okay when I pull it apart. Yes the rack is what JLR calls that cable thingy. 🤷‍♂️

What do you mean by "mis sweep"?

When they stop, can you hear the motor running, i.e., has the motor stalled stopping the wipers or have the blades stopped but the motor is still running?

Should have been “mid” sweep… misspelled that 🙄. And yes the motor is running and the blades have too much resistance to allow it to finish. If I lift one blade or push the arm then it will park or finish the sweep. 🤷‍♂️ 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Try lubricating the wheel box spindles where they come out the of the bulkhead first and see if that makes a difference.

In that case I suggest that it is most likely that the wheelboxes are binding on the rack due to wear.

I can't remember how easy or hard it is to access the motor on a TD5 compared to a TDCi, but a trick that has worked for me as an interim measure on the TDCi is to remove the wiper arms completely, then undo the nut securing the motor to the rack tube, unbolt the motor from the vehicle, and withdraw the rack from the guide tube completely. Then rotate each spindle through 180 degrees, and (after greasing it) replace the rack in the guide tube and refit the motor.

In normal operation less than half the circumference of the drive wheel in the wheelbox ever contacts the rack, and doing the above ensures that the unworn portion becomes the used part. Since experience suggests that the wheel wears quicker than the rack itself, this is usually a fix good for quite some time longer.

If you want to be really thorough whilst the motor and rack are out, remove the drive gear cover from the motor gearbox and flip the rack over, thereby using the unworn "side" of the rack as well.

The above tricks are of particular value in the Puma since it is relatively easy to get the motor out but a much bigger job to change the wheelboxes.
