Upgraded Headlight Harness - Where to Buy?
Hi all,

The recent thread on LED headlights https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic96225.html has prompted me to seek out an upgraded headlight relay for my Defender. I don’t really like LEDs so would like to stick with getting the most out of the output of my standard headlights.

In my previous Defender I fitted a loom from the Dutch outfit Land Reiziger. However when searching for them earlier sadly they seem to have closed down.

Can anyone recommend where I can source a good quality upgraded headlight loom? I’m aware of the Red Bison/Boomslang version but would like to avoid that given its poor reputation for quality and the use of only one fuse and a fuse holder with a reputation for melting/failing - I don’t want to run the risk of losing both main and dipped beam. See here for example: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic45391.html

I don’t have the ability to make my own, so was hoping that another small business might have stepped in to fill the gap in the market. Can anyone recommend a good option/supplier?

Many thanks

I have a Land Reiziger loom on mine, pleased with it, as you say, a shame they aren’t any longer available.

I would make my own if I needed one, but I know that isn’t an option for everyone.

Having had the Landrigzier on H7s in wipac crystals and LEDs there’s no comparison, I’d personally never not have LED, the best but sadly not legal were the classic car LEDs in the crystals, the normal h7s were so bad i decided it was worth the risk running the LED bulbs until i could put some sealed units in, i eventually went to Truck Lites to stay legal but they weren't as good as the wipacs with LEDs .

Many thanks for this - I’ll drop Paul a DM to see if he would make something up for me. Otherwise maybe I’ll have to put a wanted advert up for a Land Reiziger loom and hope someone has one on a shelf after swapping to LED units!

Yes, I wish I had the knowledge and confidence to build my own but it doesn’t seem safe or sensible to teach myself on a fairly critical system haha

Thanks - that was actually the version I was trying to avoid Shocked but it did lead me to spot that FlatDog are advertising a “heavy duty” version of the Boomslang loom, although it doesn’t explain in exactly what way its heavy duty… possibly waterproof relays. I’ve emailed them to ask whether the heavy duty version is now properly fused. I’ll post any reply I get here for others.

Might also be worth speaking to Dan Padmore who owns pace automotive, he’s been very proactive with wiring fixes.

It's just some wire and relay holders.

I've, previously, purchased a "boomslang" one new.

If I was ever to need another, I think I'd get one of the £15 eBay ones and extend the wires if I needed to.
