Garages than can balance Defender wheels?
Has anyone else found that it's hard to find tyre places, or garages, that can balance Defender wheels?

Mine has a bit of a shake at 60-ish, I suspect a wheel is a bit out of balance. It has aftermarket 18" alloys on, but the centres must be the same size as standard wheels I presume. No one seems to have the cones large enough to locate the wheels on their balancing machine.

Think might have to seek out a 4x4 specialist tyre place or perhaps an agricultural tyre merchants, if they have balancing machines!

Most good independent tyre fitters should be able to balance a defender wheel and tyre.

Alternatively you could insert some dynabeads ( the smaller ones) via the tyre valve, re inflate and hey presto the wheel / tyre combo will balance.

You'd think any place would do it, wouldn't you? Maybe just bad luck but 2 places close to me, both good independents, neither had the large enough cone to do it.

If it's not a widespread problem and just my bad luck that's good to hear! Not heard of dynabeads, will check them.

I recently used a guy in a unit to fit tyres and he then couldn't balance them for that reason.

Never had a problem with the large tyre chain places, who I normally tend to use. LR Workshop
