Wipac crystal with Osram night breaker lamps, and Hella FF75 spots relayed off main beam (all road legal) and now I can see where I am going at night.
My mounts were rusty to I'm going to get the SS ones from boltonbits soon. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

No spots can only work on main beam, illegal to have them on on dip or dim dip. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

High beams just light up everything, including the eyes of other drivers, as do spots (to some extent). They shouldn't be used with oncoming traffic.
Dipped beams are directed down and away from oncoming cars (an important MOT check). No other lights can interfere with this.
Hence spots should not be used with dips Smile Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

So doesn't common sense tell us to point spots at the same place as dipp then?

I suppose it all depends what you want to use them for.
In any event, the law has to cover all vehicles, including those of "spotty" boy racers whose "common sense" may be somewhat lacking Rolling Eyes Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

As far as I am aware you can have auxiliary lights which are on with dip beam as long as they do not and cannot dazzle oncoming drivers and their centres are a minimum of 600mm (used to be 2 feet) from the ground (if lower than this they are considered fog lights and can only be used in fog, falling snow, or nowadays other conditions of seriously reduced visibilty).

A spot beam auxiliary light probably doesn't make a lot of sense if it is fitted with the beam directed downwards sufficiently to ensure that it doesn't and cannot dazzle oncoming drivers, so doesn't tend to happen. I have, on several Land-Rovers I have run in the past (including my Disco2) fitted good quality aftermarket fog lights positioned with care to be just over 600mm from the ground. They are still low enough to work well as fog lights (better than LR headlights anyway) and with flat low beams they do not dazzle drivers. They are excellent for illuminating puddles/floods etc, and very useful on unmetalled roads for spotting holes etc. They are - as far as I can determine - fully legal to use either with or instead of dip beam.

The only trouble I have found using them is ignorant oncoming drivers assume, if you have dip plus aux lights on, that they are for lights and give you a blast of main beam, same as they might if you really were using fogs inappropriately. They do not dazzle oncoming drivers, but some oncoming drivers just hate you anyway!

Conclusion Thumbs Up

i.e. spot + dip = barely legal, hardly useful and likely to get you flashed a lot (you may also have to explain the law to Plod if he stops you Shocked ) Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

What was the answer to this question (BoB listing this as a "Genuine Part" in "original Landrover packaging")?
