Reconnecting handbrake cable to lever.
I decided to undertake what I thought would be, at most, a days work installing sound proofing and barrier matting to the seat box and footwell of my 2007 90. I should have known better :-/

As part of installing the matting I needed to undo the handbrake and remove the lever assembly, I managed to do this after a bit of a struggle pulling the cable through the rubber grommet and away from the lever. My issue is now I can’t reconnect the cable to the lever, the cable is about an inch short, and I don’t seem to have enough slack to get the lever and cable to line up to reinsert the pin.

Am I missing something, should I just give it a bit more muscle? The handbrake was working fine before so don’t really want to just the cable and the cable didn’t spring away when I undid it as if it was under any tension.

Any ideas most welcome, pic below shows the gap.

Its been a while since i have messed around with my handbrake, (and all be it on a td5) but can you loosen it by going underneath the car, i think its just a simple bolt on the handbrake assembly, then connect the cable to the handle, and then re-tighten?

Check that the rubber grommet part of the cable assembly is fully seated into the hole in the rear of the seat box. If not you can remove the cable again and apply a small amount of rubber grease to the grommet which will help it to fully engage when inserted.

Thanks for the replies, I'll get some grease and push harder.
