Thanks for the replies, yes I've looked at Winchester gears and Ashcroft. Price wise these Britpart ones are a good price and you get to keep your old one to rebuild as a spare. I would be grateful if their's anyone on here who had bought one and what they think of them. Many thanks

Hi
Britpart is an emotive subject in Land Rover circles. A few years ago I serviced my daily drive, a 2005 L322 Range Rover using Britpart filters. Back then I didn't give it much thought but within weeks the Rangy started running rough. I was advised that it was an injector problem, so as there were 100,000 mile on the clock I replaced all 6 injectors. It still ran rough. I then was told that the fuel pump was knackered. So, once again, I bought a nice new fuel pump and fitted it. It still ran rough. My daughters then fiancé was a Land Rover Master Tech down in Bristol. He popped up for a visit and to try to help me sort the rangy out. By this time I had spent well over £1000 chasing the cause of the rough running. We opened the bonnet and the first this he said was "What's a Britpart fuel filter doing on this?" He then suggested either a Mann or genuine LR filter swap. A couple of hours later a Mann fuel filter was fitted. Turned the key and once again my Rangy was purring like a kitten.. Since then I've never bought anything Britpart apart from fastenings and trim items. Personally I wouldn't even consider fitting a Britpart transfer box. There's a reason they are so cheap... Jim |

Britparts does make good parts, but it is a bit hit and miss. There are parts where Britpart is the only option and you just need to assess and take your chance. At least its not expensive typically.
When you have an option I normally take the middle ground (OEM) unless it is a critical items or something hard to change later in that case I might go LR original part. Coming from a Series landrover I started to hate the gear noise, which the a good LT230 does not suffer from. I recently swapped out a noisy LT230 with a good used (unopened) one and it was an al-round success. You should look at that too. In fact a Britpart transfercase might just be that. It will not be new, but could be a 'tested' good used unit, cleaned up but never opened and overhauled. If it turns out to bad/noisy you would have to go through the effort of removing and returning it. |

Well thank you both Jim and TexasRover, very much appreciate your time and feedback.
The main reason I'm drawn to the Britpart LT230 is Yes they're cheap but they are not asking for the old one as return. Having one to rebuild myself is appealing. Lots to think about, keeping in mind your valuable feedback. I'll keep looking around. |

I've never heard of anyone having problems with one, but then again I have never heard of anyone fitting one either! There is plenty of scope for Britpart to mess up an LT230 (and Britpart does seem to have a talent at producing some startlingly bad parts), but it is very unlikely that they built their own LT230s. I suspect that the the important question is from where does Britpart source these. |

I've got a knackered (bearings) lt230 on the garage floor that I need to rebuild for a project.
I would rebuild this, rather than buy a britpart branded box. The difference for you is that you don't have a donor box on your floor. The cost of acquiring a knackered donor box would probably be quite minimal. If you get the britpart one, the rebuild your old one, are you then going to swap the rebuilt one back in? And then do what with the britpart one? If you just buy a donor one, rebuild it, you can swap the known good one directly in. I suspect (I don't know) that britpart is just distributing these. They won't be new castings etc. I think someone will be rebuilding them and then flogging them though britpart. You can buy optimil parts with britpart part numbers now. The knee jerk reaction against anything with a DA part designation is foolish. But is whoever is rebuilding these (if my suspicions are correct) using nice bearings etc. Who knows. Maybe you can find out somehow? Again, I'm sure someone must have a dead lt230 that they would sell you if you ask about. |

Probably of Turkish origin and rebuild, distributed by Britpart. It'll probably last the years warranty.
Good luck with that, I'll stick with Ashcrofts. Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Hi,
i just wouldn't touch a blue box of death, bought a coil for my V8, i was in a bind, caused me rough running until i fitted a Bosch one, learnt my lesson the hard way. I've always used Ashcroft's the service is impeccable, fitted a few air lockers & ATB's, auto rebuilds & LT230's all still running to this day. The lockers can really take a hammering, and then some. If you've a question, the whole team are bang on the button with replies, non of this leave a message, or email with zero response like from other outfits. |

I suggest they don't want your old unit as they know your going to need it. You could buy Bridport one, rebuild your old one with quality parts from say Ashcrofts, then fit that to replace they probably knackered Britpart one.
Or just fit an Ashcroft one in the first instance and not need yournold core unit. I guess it depends if you like changing t boxes and want the option to rebuild your own? Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
