Noticed now that diesel knock seems more and more pronounced when engine is fully up to temp.

Does it change with clutch in/out? Could maybe be Dual Mass Flywheel? 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

Nope, it’s definite combustion diesel knock, not oil or anything related. Only on idle does it get loud and when engine is up to temp. All other driving scenarios it’s fine. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

I would bank on the injectors.... possibly the harness is giving incorrect signals.....
Here are some other possible things Ill spill off the cuff..... big end or small end bearings but that's crazy work to find out timing chain and tensioner can make a knock. Your crank pulley could be delaminating this will also make a knock. If you have a nanocom you can check your cylinder balances..... In an extreme situation but unlikely, one of your injectors are leaking, pooled the bowl and on first combustion bent a rod.... again, very very rare but possible. |
