Calling all DC owners....help request.
I'm looking for some help please fellas.....I've noticed my DC 'lists' to one side at the front. I've measured the distance between teh ground and the wheel arch on each side, and it turns out the drivers side front is 30mm closer to the ground than the passenger side!

Been to my local dealer (it's a March 2011 vehicle) and they started off with the usual "they all do that" until I asked the workshop 'controller' which side is supposed to be higher and he answered that normally the dirvers side is marginally higher than the passenger to allow it to balance out when the driver gets it. I personaally think it sounds like boll-ocks (pardon my language).

Anyway, they're coming to pick it up from me this Friday (as I didn't really want to pay the £25 for a courtesy car!!!) to 'take some measurements' and ask Land Rover if they are within tolerance. To be fair, the workshop guy did think that 30mm did seem excessive.

Any chance you chaps could measure the O/s & N/s heights from the floor, to see if there are any differences please? Just to give me some 'ammunition', should I need it.

Thanks guys Thumbs Up Mark

Good idea Pom......hadn't thought of that one!

Weak/broken spring was my first thought......might go back up there with a tape measure I think!

So, one here is spot on....be good to see what others find. Thanks so far Smile

ALSO.....forgot to say above....had a quick look at their fixed price servicing list up on the wall: £450 for 12 month /12k mile service! lol No wonder I'm not going there for that!! Can't remember the exact figure, but in excess of £560 for the 24 month/24k service.......completely shocking! Mark

Firstly I don't have a DC, but my 90 pickup lists. In fact I think all my Defenders have been slightly lower on the N/side than the O/side.

I did question it once and was told the "It's to balance the weight of the driver" but never thought much more of it. I will measure mine tonight to check the difference. Nick

Not sure about the rears off-hand, but LR front springs have always been handed to take account of the driver and, in pre-'07 90s', the fuel tank. Therefore, the drivers side usually sits slightly higher when unladen. The drivers side being lower at all is definitely wrong, let alone by 30mm. Darren

I also heard this, that the driver side springs are slightly longer, so perhaps your springs have been put on the wrong side following a LHD set-up Editor of FunRover - One blog. Read it!

Mine didn't have that problem, or at least never noticed it, and still don't ... April 2010 vehicle ...

It was lower at the front end, after fitting winch and bumper it was even lower ... fitted some original HD springs and it's fine ... it is leveled - back and front, left and right ... Regards

Hi Mark

Had exactly the same problem, Yeovil LR found the problem very quickly - two nearside front springs fitted instead of the correct 'handed' springs Shocked

They changed them and problem resolved, however the problem has returned after a year or so Big Cry

I'm going to change the front springs to Flatdog HD non lift version myself, one of the many jobs on my list.
I know everybody says that LR springs are OK but, in my experience, they do tend to sag after a sort period of time.

Bob

PS - have a look here for the correct colour codes.

As of TD5 vehicles, LR stopped fitting handed springs to the front - mine had yellow/yellow on both sides whereas previous vehicles would have had different springs.

I am not sure if they started fitting handed springs to pumas again, but I very much doubt it. [:O|===|O:] 2001 110 TD5 Doublecab
