Can’t charge to 100%

Software updates to reduce charging amounts due to fires

Software updates to reduce performance

Battery changes in the US has reduced performance as well.

Owners in the US have taken legal action against JLR.

But apart from all that, it would make a great chicken coop.

anyone read in the daily mail, a bloke had to call the police for help, that his EV Jag decided to do well over 70 mph, and it wouldn't let him brake, stated some sort of error. The police had to do a stop procedure. The owner was very shaken, anyway a week later Jag looked the car over and so did the police, and found nowt wrong with it. The bloke ended up been arrested for dangerous driving, but there had a been a few stories of the Jag EV having a funny turn like that, it was stated. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

This really worries me about new cars, just like mobile phones you have this interfere from companies that primarily look after their interests. But you bought the car it should be yours to use as you please.

I am 50 something and I think my future cars are going to be simpler and cheaper and simpler and cheaper. I don't need to modern convenience anyway. Fuel Injection, AC and Bluetooth are the last great additions to cars as far as I am concerned.

Someone once said that modern electronics will be the rust of today's classic cars (words to that effect).

Look at the new defender / modern range rovers; electronic gremlins will be the issue that sends the old ones to be scrapped in 20 years, when the cost to diagnose and replace some random module, exceeds its value.

In 2016 I had a brand-new plug-in hybrid Mercedes 350e through work. On my 30th birthday the gearbox destroyed itself due to an electronic fault; 3 weeks at the dealership and the warranty cost "invoice" I saw when I collected the car was for just over £7k for a replacement gearbox and wiring loom (almost 8 years ago).

If that had been out of warranty and my personal car, I'm not sure what I would have done.

If governments truly cared about the environment, they would insist that cars are designed for ease of service / maintenance in mind, to keep them on the road and save all the carbon that goes into production. But then, if they actually cared about the environment, they wouldn’t be charging 20% VAT on insulation, double / triple glazing, led lightbulbs, or boiler servicing….. 2011 CSW XS 90

The biggest issue for EV longevity will be the battery, you won’t get 20 years out of it. I would be surprised if most last 10 years , either due to battery degradation, failure, or having a minor shunt that causes the vehicle to be written off.

I find it amusing that when a car is launched we get the blurb that it has been tested in hot places like Death Valley and cold tested in northern Canada. Components have been tested (computer simulated?) equating to X amount of years normal use, and new cars are plagued with gremlins. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Received this email today re my l460 phev I was expecting it since it all operates on the same backend api as the ipace. I fudged the RR to report in the tronity app using the RRs vin but telling the app it was an ipace. When that worked I thought to myself the api implementation was sketchy!

I write to let you know about an important change we have made to further protect you and your vehicle. From 6 March 2024, third party applications and services which rely on unauthorised access to our data interface to obtain vehicle data (known as an Application Programming Interface (API)), will no longer be able to do so.

We are aware of a number of applications and services that seek to use vehicle data or control your vehicle via unauthorised access to our API. This unauthorised use of our API could potentially leave our clients vulnerable to unsanctioned activities and lead to vehicle data being misused. The security of your vehicle and vehicle data is an absolute priority.

Therefore, as a proactive and preventative measure, we have restricted unauthorised access to our API. Unfortunately, as a consequence you may experience some changes to third-party services available to you.

Official applications and services that use vehicle data via authorised and secure access to our API, such as Land Rover InControl Remote and Alexa Skills, will not be affected by the change.

Other third party applications and services, such as intelligent/smart charging (where the energy provider controls and varies the time at which the vehicle charges with low cost/renewable energy) or other smart home services, may be affected by the change.

We have been proactively working with a number of key energy providers and if you are affected by this change, I understand that your provider has been in contact with you direct. I have been informed that, in many cases, alternative solutions are available that continue to provide flexibility when charging your vehicle. I encourage you to speak directly to your energy provider to discuss these options, if you haven’t already done so.

I understand how important these services are to our clients and I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this causes you. Please rest assured that, in addition to protecting your vehicle data and vehicle integrity, this change also helps to protect you against loss or damage you may suffer as a result of unauthorised access to our API.

We are currently in the process of collaborating with specialist service providers to support the provision of vehicle data for third-party applications and services in a safe and secure way, ensuring that quality standards are verified by JLR. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I have often wondered that too, spudfan.

I mean, you wouldn't want car manufacturers to design and build nuclear power stations, would you?

Boeing's CEO is looking for a new job. Just saying.

Unfortunately when they say that they have done 1 million miles of testing, it not one car doing that milage, or two covering 500,000 miles or 4 doing 250,000 miles each.

It is numerous vehicles with some vehicles that never see the road and are component tested in lab conditions.

But the cycles are added to the overall milage tested.

The balance is investment and upfront costs to the time to recoup sales. But it is poor when the end user turns out to be the Beta tester and then not getting the full support of the dealership to correct any issues.

That explains a lot. The annoying thing is that these protracted stays in a garage eat into your warranty cover period. The warranty cover should be extended each time the vehicle is in getting warranty work done, especially while awaiting parts to be delivered. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Some.... but most gremlins these days are software related and having employed some of these types of "people" I can see why...

Having said that the BMW updates have been faultless....VWs for the ID3 on the other hand were beyond a joke...

I never really consider myself one of those conspiracy theory folks (said every conspiracy theorist ever Laughing ) and I don't think there is as much of a colluded bigger "thing" that they're sending us towards.
But I really have a strong dislike for "smart" stuff...

Sure I use a smart phone, as much as I hate it, I'd struggle without it as I'm reliant on tutorials, information, contact with friends and family, work related stuff, taking pictures etc etc... but I really hate the data mining that comes off it - not that I overly know or care why they use my data, but I dislike that something is profiteering off just being a background snoop - especially when your hands are tied behind every update or necessary app or whatnot. I even find a questioning thought when I offer up my nectar card or club card.

Smart meters, Smart cars (not those goofy 2 doors, but the EV cars in general), smart chargers etc. And why are none of these things smart enough to be less bothersome than their analogue predecessor? I especially don't like the concept of crippling auto updates on a vehicle that I'd spent tens of thousands on. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

And it all makes you ask yourself "was there anything really wrong with the combustion engine, gearbox and manual windows"?? Rolling Eyes

When it comes down to it the human race hasn't even been able to get the humble printer to work flawlessly, what on Earth makes us so confident/idiotic/arrogant to think we could make a reliable electric car??

You won’t get more arrogant than attitudes such as those who created articles such as this:
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/27/opinion...index.html
Obsessive compulsive behaviour and patterns are real when it comes to these people.
And yet, they can’t even see how obsessive compulsive that they are, nor how their extreme attitudes and views affect others.
There is distinct sociopathic behaviour present, many don’t even have a driving licence. Rolling with laughter Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
