I just got my Defender back with a replaced EGR unit after 95475 km.
My OBD II bluetooth module send me a lot of errors. This time my orange engine light wasn't shown, until I drove 300 km. The garage first exchanged the pipe and sensor as posted by 91dm. But after driving more than 100 km the engine light lighted again. So the garage did exchange the EGR unit. They drove nearly 330 km with my car! This time no problem has appeared. Fingers crossed that this will be ok, as I will drive to the French Alps and Italy this summer. As I changed the oil in the engine myself, Land Rover didn't accept to replace the EGR under warranty. They are very strict. The dealer told me one client was 1200 km over the normal revision cycle. LR didn't except it. So I payed 575 Euros for the EGR unit. 22MY Defender 110 (actual) | 10MY Freelander 2 (history) | 15MY Discovery Sport HSE (history) |

This thread and pics has been very helpful, thank you. I am at 50k miles, had the P401 Insufficient EGR about 4 weeks ago on a long drive, cleared the fault, hasn't come back yet, however I have another issue which may be related. I also have the hesitation in 1st/2nd gear and on a DPF regen at idle I can smell smoke inside the cabin. I believe the exhaust gases are recirculated during regen to increase the temperature for the burnoff, could one of these hoses be leaking? At one point there was black smoke in the engine bay. There are no relevant fault codes. Does anyone know much about this cycle and which hose could be the culprit? The smoke appeared on the left side of the engine near the metal hose that 91dm took a picture of. There looks to be some type of oil leak in my pic below. ![]() Click image to enlarge |
