Axle casings question
Are both front and rear axle casings from a Disco1 compatible with Defender 90 and 110 in terms of dimensions and weight rating?

Am I right assuming the rear diff casing is a long nose type?

Thanks in advance

I think it depends on which D1 and which Defender 90 you have. The 110 is a different axle on the rear.

The radius arms are narrower on the 200tdi than the 300tdi.

Also, some Defenders have drums - I can't tell you anything about those.

I swapped the axle cases on my Defender which I believe were off a 200tdi, and swapped them for 300tdi cases. I had to change my radius arms to the wider type and also the bolts holding the brake calipers on was a different thread - 200tdi was M12 coarse thread and the 300tdi was a M12 fine thread.

Defender 2003ish onwards have different front axle panhard rod brackets which is different from the latest 300tdi Disco 1. The size of the panhard bolt also changed from M14 to M16. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Ok. This axle casing comes from a 1997 3.9 Disco 1.

So according to you guys it does not fit into a rear 110" (say Td5 or Puma). Puma 110" SW

Weight rating of a Disco 1 / 90 rear axle is less than that of a 110. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

As said by Dinnu, 110's always had a heavier duty rear axle. Either Salisbury type, or a reinforced Rover type axle.
The rear propshaft length will vary according to the axle or diff type.

The Front axle case varied little between Discovery 1, 90 and 110. There was no reinforced version, except for HD military specials.
As mentioned above, panhard rod bolt diameter and radius arm gap did change and some small details.
