The Matra Rancho was a Simca 1100/1300 steel front end and a glassfibre, B pillar backend. In France they had a canvas top rear end.

OMG : The custom 6 wheeler looks too much like a hearse to me!!!

I do remember the Rancho (showing my age).

If they had been more creative and made it 4 wheel drive with a bit more ground clearance I bet it would have sold loads more.

Simca had previous form with the 4x4 SUMB military truck, so it must have been in their DNA somewhere.

There was a driveway a couple of villages away from us and on it was a Matra Rancho and also a BMW 323i Baur convertible this was in the mid 90’s to the early 2000’s both were daily drivers and in my opinion great looking vehicles, the BMW had a for sale notice put on it in the mid 2000’s but before I had a chance to make a move on it regretfully it had sold, cheers Paul

Anyone noticed how rare Smart Cars are these days (the ForTwo)?

Pulled up next to one today and it made me think. I always wanted one as a run around, but they have all but disappeared.

Rashers, my mate had one from new, but sadly though they die very early on in mileage. The engines only seem to last about 50k after that they are oil burners and mega money pits. Which will explain why, My friends ended up been a breaker, his had 70k on and it was drinking oil. Practically knackered, even though it did motorway miles.
Also another lad i worked with had one, that had the engine rebuilt, and again that was wanting money spent on it, and garages were not really keen on taking it on. I think he scrapped it in the end, as he couldn't get any buyers. Good little cars mind, and always wound the two lads up about them been made for women's parking in mind Laughing Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Hi, I still remember the day my dad took me into Barnstaple shopping ( we lived at RAF Chivenor) and they had unbeknown to me ordered a new car, I was home for the weekend from Boarding school and we went to County Motors on 19/02/1982 and picked up a brand new Triumph Acclaim HL in Champagne VTA 809X, it’s was my parents first new car having traded in our Austin Allegro GLT 986N, I then went from being a passenger to learn to drive in it in 1985 and unfortunately I was driving it when it got written off in 1987, thankfully the police were behind me and saw exactly what happened and advised me of this whilst I was still in the car gathering my senses, pretty scary at the time and really sad that it ended up being written off as it was my dads pride and joy, unfortunately my dad is no longer with us but I still have the car key hanging up on one of the roof beams in my workshop and see it every time I go in there. Cheers Paul

I remember my Nan’s Triumph Acclaim auto. (Think it was actually Trio-matic or something like that)

She managed to drive it through the back wall of her garage on two separate occasions while driving with her 1980’s bright red Moon boots on, by putting her foot on both accelerator and brake at the same time! Shocked Rolling with laughter

Love this. My Dad was a keen pre-SLR photographer and I still have his light meter in its leather case in my study. JB

a lass on in metro owners club, had one of those funny enough. She sold it on, a few years now. The new owner did say to her, if he decided to sell it on, she would have 1st refusal. Sadly though he never bothered getting back in touch with her from what i read, and sold the car on. She did a check on it and it was believed to be on Sorn. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
