New Door Hinges - Any Experience?

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace the front door hinges for a billet set in black, and have three options I would consider.

Exmoor Trim
Optimill
Offroad Monkey (Germany)

Has anyone got any real world experience with any of these as I just can't decide.

I like the look/original shape of the Exmoor ones the best, but saw somewhere they are not as 'tight' as the optimill on the bushes so have a small amount of play. Would this be an issue, I can't stand any rattles etc? Plus these are a nice matt finish.

The optimill I am sure are spot on quality wise. Not overkeen on the design and they are more gloss than I would like.

Offroad Monkey I have never seen in the flesh, they look great, matt finish and have either screws or grease nipples.

Not much in cost between them all, and I am not too bothered about the security side of the optimill ones.

Had GORE got any I would have those to match the bonnet and bulkhead parts I have from them as they are superb, but it seems they are either not in business any more or just never in stock.

Would appreciate some opinions

Fitted a few sets of ORM hinge sets great qaulity and fit,we like them because they are close to OEM look but work and last. The grease nipples are rather obvious but could be removed,the sight of them does encourage regular greasing. Only criticism is they only provide two plastic gasket/shims per hinge and they are a different profile to the JLR ones. We had to wait for more to arrive from Germany accompanied with a invoice!

I have the Croytec hinges fitted for about 10 years and they are still perfect

Thank you, I hadn't considered those, I'll add them to the mix.

Anyone else got any real world experience, especially of the EM Trim ones?

Although I still have the OEM Hinges, I intend to replace. My preference is the Optimill as they are a "security hinge" and there is no bolt visible on the outside, so you need to get into the car to get the door off.

Exmoor Trim, Offroad Monkeys, and Croytec all seem to have the exterior bolts.

Agreed on the Optimill, maybe that is the way to go for that very reason - I'm just not sold on the more glossy finish. Wish they did a matt version, would be more suited to what I am after.

Most of the billet replacement hinges are a similar price for a set, sadly.

Its an investment to combat a known weak spot really.

I have optimal on my 110, they aren't liking the harsh Scottish weather and salty roads too much. If I were to do it again I'd be going with ORM or YRM stainless hinges. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

Something that I’d never have to replace. I guess you could spray them?

Mine has stainless hinges just like the YRM items. The front door hinges came from SP4x4 in gloss piano black. The 2nd row set came from PowerfulUK in a brushed satin finish (see pic) which took a few coats of Smooth Hammerite to make them look the same as the fronts. 4 years later the paint has a few chips, but then the front set has some too. Functionally both sets remain perfect.
