This vehicle does not identify as a Land Rover
I took this photo 2 days ago, the FIRST time ever I'd taken one of the new Defender.
It was the setting, the monotone colours and the context of the vehicle in it's environment that looked 'right'.
Maybe I was starting to warm to the vehicle?
Yesterday it was announced that the vehicle shall, henceforth, not be identified as a Landrover.
This first picture will be the last.

Please don't dead name it.

The definition of ‘Land Rover’ is

Necessity, following the war Rover and Britain needed to export

Flexible and resourceful, basing a required vehicle on a Jeep chassis, left over aluminium and RAF paint

Working, a farm vehicle, small and cheap enough to do some of the work of a tractor, a multi purpose utility truck that can build and modified for purpose.

Adventurous, a vehicle that opened up the world for exploration, whether off to Australia or a week away to Scotland with the family, the dog and the caravan.

A much loved friend

A project

A cheap race car

A family of vehicles

A true enthusiast vehicle

Never boring.

Sadly, all in the past. The world has moved on and so has the customer profile. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Left over aluminium and leftover ex RAF paint are both debunked myths that need consigning to the dustbin, neither notion is true.
Birmabright was not used on aircraft (Rover had nothing to do with aircraft production) and was chosen as it was rust proof and not subject to rationing as steel was at the time, and the light green paint was chosen to blend in in the countryside and was ordered from Burgess paints just like any other. 2011 110 USW

I can define my land rover by stating that it is an entity that constantly tests me via endless rounds of physical, emotional, psychological and financial torture in order to ascertain that I am still worthy of owning it. Oh woe, oh woe
My crusty old landrover,
It will not go.

road tyres, parked in the middle of an office complex area (I guess in a city), squeeky clean.

'nuff said.

It was in Westminster, not far from the Abbey and Parliament.
This one stood out, all the others were black... on road tyres, in the city and squeeky clean. Wink

They stopped being Land Rovers in 1990 when they became Defenders as part of the Marketing.

Mine is 1985 so it is a Land Rover 110 not a Defender.

A company in free fall.

It’s not a small player, but it doesn’t have the power of being part of a big group. It has mis-match of products that fight with each other for sales. It has been woefully late to the EV market. It treats its customers like dirt. The reliability of most of its products has been questionable. If you own a Jaguar franchise at present, you too have been screwed by the same organisation. I am afraid this rebrand is a corporate ‘moving the chairs on the deck of the Titanic’.

I think this is all about breaking the company up. I would never be surprised if sections get sold to third parties. You never know, Ford might like another go at a bit of it? (maybe Jaguar?) Whistle
