there is no viscus joint on the defender, they are more agricultural the drum brake maybe making the noise for the handbrake.
Prob best to get under with wheels up (and turn the items over to see if the noise can be located closer) I have had a squeak/rubbing on mine that was a stone in the brake backing plate, was simple to fix that one. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Some people think the failure of the front diff is inevitable and will happen to all of us. I am not so sure, but if there would be noise from the front diff surely it would show in the oil.
Let us know what you find. |

Update on this.
Rear passenger side wheel bearing at fault. Ordered new discs/pads/calipers and bearings so it’ll have a full going over. Serviced the diffs and engine oil while I was under it. So a successful day! The unsuccessful part will be removing the rusty hex caliper bolts ![]() I have heard good things about the Irwin bolt extractor set? Anyone have experience? 2017 5.0 V8 Supercharged RRS SVR 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |
