oil pressure light
Has anyone else noticed that the oil pressure light on a TDCi Defender takes a long time to go out - my car has less than 1400 miles on it and seems to take 5-8 seconds of running before the light goes out.

Any comments?

Check the oil or better still, change the oil and filter.

Mine usually goes out as soon as the engines started, the only time it didn't was when it needed to be topped up.

a good dealer would have informed you that the ABS light indeed has to stay on after starting until the car has moved and turned the wheels several times at a bit more than minimal speed as the system will be checking if the ABS sensors are functioning normally. Only after that process is completed and found to be ok, the ABS light goes out.

All lights out immediately, except for ABS which goes out once the 90 goes forward about 5 yds. Has been this way since new. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH

Not normal. Something is wrong= no oil pressure while engine is on Shocked : oil pump, low oil, sensor, valve. Light must turn off right away on any engine with an oil pump. Puma 110" SW

Chris, I'd get that seen to asap!

Have you checked the oil level in the engine yet? It may just need a topup. --

Relying on the oil light to warn you the level is low is plain stupid as damage will have been done on the move. It takes less time to dip the oil than it does to log-in here?
ABS light should go off at 5mph i think. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I would get it into dealers as it could be something serious, partially blocked crankshaft breather/oil feeder pipe, oil pump fault/partially blocked feeder pipe etc. Or something minor like a faulty EOP sensor/harness plug. Low oil will throw on the EOP warning light as the lack of oil will reduce the engine pressure but I wouldn't rely on it as a oil level gauge as that is not what it is designed for.
If you have a dtc reader see if DTC P0520-15 is logged? If so the fault lies with the EOP sensor/harness.

Right - many thanks for all the comments - first TDCi I have had so nothing to compare with.

Have checked oil - it is at the right mark

Generally the oil light stays on as long as the glow plug light and sometimes goes out before the charge light but mostly after it.

Will be on the phone to the agent to get them to check it out.

Once again many thanks. - Have a short video so will try to post that tonight

Lorryman - thanks Have checks DTCs but all modules clear.

This could just be me being over cautius but I would expect the oil light to go out THE INSTANCE the engine turns!!!

Regards Chris Bowler
