My V8 Swap (Toyota 1UZ-FE)
Hello All,

Thought I'd begin the thread early before all parts are in my hands.

Got a few things to iron out and discuss before I get going anyway.

Part List

Winchester Gears TDI R380 w/ 5% taller 5th, HD Bearings + Cooler

Winchester Gears 1.2 TDI Transfer Box w/ ATB Diff

DW250iL Universal 250l/h external pump

Ashcroft Adapter plate

LOF 300tdi Clutch kit

Speed Hut gauges (Eventually)

Loom from Pheonix Engine Mangement (Link Extreme ECU)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will slowly add to this thread as time goes on but it will be somewhat quiet for a while as I'm only purchasing parts and or making them at the moment.

Thumbs Up Luke Marsden

Made up a design for my fuel sender mount in the td5 tank

Thought I'd save the monies making one instead of using a standard LR item

Will be using a length of corrugated plastic piping as the return feed

It'll be just two 9/16-18" for the plumbing which should be big enough to feed the pump

the WEMA sender has a standard SAE 5-hole pattern - Which I haven't seen before (Its split by 72 and 68 degrees... not a PCD)

please make any suggestions as I'm no mechanic but do just have some engineering back ground Thumbs Up

I would recommend sticking with the Land Rover unit as I struggled to find a sender unit that would match up with the instrument cluster. 1989 90 4.3 V8

I've seen a few that'll fit with the standard hole size and black/ white theme, just the illumination is an issue at the moment.

Wema do their own, Duratec seem fine too at a similar price. both have black bezels too.

And plenty of other aftermarket brands available. I don't mind spending the time to find the right one for me. Luke Marsden

Bit of a photo dump of my weekend by weekend progress...

Nothing fun or exciting - just stripping the engine down and rebuilding the top end.

Still got to wait for Winchester gears to confirm an order for the box and TC.

I've got to investigate that head, looks like its gotten quite hot. I reckon the headgasket not a channel being blocked at the minute. Luke Marsden

Likkle more progress made this weekend

I polished all 32 valves lightly, just cleaning them up and making the surface much smoother.

Also lapped both heads too, that was fun… (still somewhat satisfying to be honest)

Now my next plan or task is to source the loom and ecu, then we can get the engine running outside of a vehicle

Some goodies finally arrived.

Got the ECU/ Loom being sourced this month too. After that, in march I will be purchasing the adaptor plate and 2.8TGV Clutch. Then we're ready to take the car off of the road.
