I think I will looking at new 2nd row doors as well...But that can wait until next year 1999 Defender TD5 110

Ah, that's something at least but I don't think you'd regret beefing it up.

When you come to assemble it after painting, I find that a rubber gasket between the carrier and the door to be a good idea to preserve the finish.

I like Don's idea of reinforcing the whole door with chequer plate, but I guess you could always use plain ali sheet, 2-3mm, and cover it with vinyl if you wanted a slightly less agricultural look to it.

Others have mentioned rivnuts, which are a great way to fix this sort of stuff, and stainless ones would be ideal for this application. I can also recommend one of these inexpensive tools to set them with:

Cheers Darren. A gasket is a good idea, I have some thing neoprene rubber left over from when I did the chequer plate work a while ago. That does look quite the tool Smile 1999 Defender TD5 110

Indeed there is.

Tonight I got the wiper motor hole drilled and ordered new rubber seal and new washer for the external part of the wiper motor.

Next is a test fit and then the door card issue to resolve.

Hopefully then into paint along with new door hinges

Once back from paint its getting cavity waxed. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I've got one of those 90 degree tools too, but now only ever use it if I can't get the one pictured into position. They're really chalk and cheese, particularly if setting steel or stainless steel rivnuts. Darren

Completely agree LRA I have the same pair (basically) for pop rivets. As you say chalk and cheese.

Also ended up ordering a new door lock, gasket and bolts. The old door lock felt like it was locked but would magically unlock itself Sad 1999 Defender TD5 110
