Chassis protection
Hello guys
I have finally put a deposit down on an ultra low mileage defender 90 2016

I have been offered a dinitrol treatment by the garage but after doing lots of reading on the forum I see people also use products like lanoguard

I see there are quite a few posts but never a true conclusion

With my chassis hardly been driven can anyone recommend a good starting product , do I go for the dinitrol treatment as it has been offered or go down another route

What do you mean by “offered” ? Are they doing it for nothing? If so snap their hands off.

It’s a recognised and respected method of keeping the dreaded rust at bay. It can be done at home but you need space, time and patience and for the best results you probably need a compressor. If someone had offered to do mine before I picked it up I’d have gone for it. Fact is I didn’t even know stuff like this was available, or necessary, until after I bought it and joined this forum!

Depends if you want to keep it topped up yourself, if yes then a very good clean and a yearly reapplication of lanoguard would be the cheapest option as it’s a more diy friendly solution, noting you should also inject the chassis cavities and for that I would use bilt hamber dynax s50. Plus use acf50 on hinges and where body panels meet.

If you want it to last 3-6 years then look at a pro doing it with dinotrol, plus ACF50 etc and if so cc automotive (zagato on here) and site sponsor are very highly rated.

I would make sure the bulkhead is loaded with whatever gunk you use. and seal the windscreen rubber with a decent sealant.

There is also mechanical protection, example footwell protection that I would recommend.
Same for rear cross member outriggers protection. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black

They have said I can get it done by a company they use or I can have £1000 off the price and get it done from a garage of my choice

have the £1000 off and immediately send it to Chris, then fit Gwyn Lewis chassis protectors

I did mine myself following Chris's guide from new and it is still good but often wish I had used a clear wax rather than black

Follow the link in the post above to find Chris, forum name 'Zagato'. He offers an underbody protection service using Dinitrol that many of us are very happy with. He's a fair distance from you but the service is a lot less than £1000.

Gwyn Lewis 4x4 is a supplier of mildly exotic suspension, drivetrain and related parts. He also produces some excellent chassis protection kits, sometime called mud shields, that fit within the wheel arches. They really are a very worthwhile investment. I've got a 110 and so they differ in detail but you can see how I've fitted them to mine here:

I have been to the garage to discuss the chassis treatment , it looks like they don’t get it treated with dinitrol like I first thought.

The have it coated with raptor , has anyone had experience with this ?

stay away from Raptor unless you are hiding something on one you are selling!
