Help needed TD5 ecu not powering up
Help needed. Td5 90 suddenly stopped when driving, felt like a fuse had blown or a broken connection as the engine stopped dead.

Has no EML, no fuel pump or main relay click when ignition turned on. Water gauge doesn't move indicating a bad earth, oil and battery lights etc still work and starter motor works fine.
Plugging into a diagnostic machine the diagnostic kit can't see the ECU but can see the 10as alarm.

Tried a 2nd known working ecu which gives the same symptoms in my 90.

All fuses tested, relays swapped, impact sensor on bulkhead bypassed, main earth on chassis to battery box cleaned, earths ran from ecu case direct to battery. Bridging the fuel pump relay makes the pump run.

I'm only measuring 6v on the brown with orange tracer on the back of all the repays and the ecu. Is that my issue and how do I resolve it?? Battery isn't flat. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Do you have 12v going to the underseat relay/fuse board?

When you turn on the ingnition, does it light MIL and GLOW lights on instruments board? If not, and all fuses and relays ar OK, you ECU is not working - not running software inside. With never NNN type ECUs, it is not uncommon, that engine ECU fail this way. It is often repairable. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

ECU has likely failed, exactly the same symptoms as mine, just stopped dead.

No EML or temp gauge, no relay, no fuel pump, no glow plug light

Try Mastaz in Hazel Grove Cheshire (google Mastaz TD5) l gave my ECU to him so he could copy the injector codes on to a replacement, but he repaired it for £80

l bought a spare ECU off him anyway in case it happens again, he charges £700 for those but the likelihood is he'll repair your old one. On mine it was a single resistor that had failed.
