TD5 rev counter hit and miss.
had the car running today, and then the rev counter just stopped. if i mess with the blowers it sort of comes back on line? when i fire the car up into life, all is working, but after a bit of a drive, the rev counter just goes like that,

I am assuming you checked the condition of the wire going into the back of the ECU.

Unless its the unit itself i cant think of what else you can check part from the main earth strap.

Did this happen at the same time the rear lenses melted?

Have a look behind the dash.... sounds like a poor connection being jogged by the fan leaver. These weren't standard, it's possibly an after market add on so might have bodged wiring in need of a repair

You might check the voltage.
When my Alternator died while off-roading, on the way home the rev counter was the first thing that stopped working. Roel

The tachometer on my Td5 receives its signal from the ECU not the alternator. I wonder if you have some connection or earthing issues with the instrument pack?

As its down past the zero mark I'm pretty certain it'll be a power problem rather than a signal problem.

Mine sits like that with the ignition off, then when you turn on the ignition the needle rises to zero.
