Germany 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Baltic Blue
Handbrake position
Hi all from this newbie!
I know I sort of posted this elsewhere but I have to "deal" with a German dealer tomorrow and need urgent help... please:
Whilst (not) repairing the clonking brake drum, they've adjusted the handbrake to 7-8 notches (almost straight up) and say that it's "Standard for Land Rover" - it was 3-4 notches before (and on pre-puma models). Which is right???
Many thanks to anyone who's listening,
Matt

From the workshop manual

5. CAUTION: Cable adjustment must ONLY be used for
initial setting and to compensate for cable stretch. It MUST NOT
be used to take up brake shoe wear, which MUST be adjusted
at brake drum.
Check operation of parking brake lever to give pawl 2 notches
free movement on ratchet before being fully operational on
third notch of ratchet. Adjust parking brake accordingly if
lever travel exceeds the above tolerance.

Regards
Keith

If you do a search Daniele 'Dgardel' has put a link to where you can download a complete LR workshop manual - the man's a star! Thumbs Up

If they are saying straight up (7-8 notches) is normal they are wrong ! They all come from the factory with 3 - 4 notches max. I'm no mechanic but these guys sound either lazy or incompetant. I'd be phoning LR customer services by now

Agreed - but German LR customer services are pathetic and just say it is hard to answer my question and I should phone a dealer... who also refuses to answer ans says come in so they can look at it - aaaaarghhh!

I will try demanding 5 notches and see if they accept the compromise...

Cheers,
Matt

maybe contact LR UK. If I had a faulty Mercedes and I wasn't getting any joy from their Irish HQ I'd be on the phone to Stuttgart. Just a thought
