HELP URGENTLY - need a gearbox
With my reverse gear completely gone I've just been told that my gearbox is bolloxed. Dealer can do a new box for £3200 as there are no refurbs available from LR.

Can anyone point me in a better direction. This is a working vehicle so a bit Censored without it!

Your vehicle is an 08, so presumably just out of warranty? I'd be on to Land Rover making a lot of noise until they did something about it. A gearbox failing after just over 3 years is nowhere near good enough. At the very least they should be giving it to you at below cost price.

Don't just let the dealer fob you off, write straight to people higher up. I'm sure others on here will have more direct experience of complaining in that manner.

A mate whose Toyota blew its head gasket about 2 months out of warranty eventually had it paid for, but only after a lot of whinging.

yep, roll the dice on £80 and small claims LR HQ for the cost. Let them explain to the beak that the design life of their product is 36 months!

You can do it all online and have nothing at all to lose.

Let us know how you get on.

OK, time to get a backbone! Does anyone have a reliable contact in Land Rover that they wouldn't mind sharing?

In SA, we lodge a complaint with LRSA and then they crap all over the dealers. If LR has a similar structure I would suggest going that route, and if nothing happens then go the small claims route. That way the judge/magistrate can see you have tried every means to get LR to come to the party. --

No harm trying Ashcroft Transmissions - If they don't, they may be able to help point you in the right direction?

Tack knows a bit about this I think. When I askd my dealer about it he said there had been "a problem" with the gearbox mfr and that there was no resolution in sight so no new boxes at all.

any dealer can raise a critial parts request if vehicle is off the road. LR will take a box straight off the production line. https://www.facebook.com/duckworthparts
