Hi all. My heated front screen has an odd problem....Wiring is fine and when the dashboard switch is pressed, the tell-tale light comes on, the relay clicks and a healthy 12v goes to the left hand side of the screen. The earth on the right hand side of the screen also has a very heavy wire which provides an excellent earth - so nothing suspicious here.
The screen has the 2 elements, and there is no centre earth tab - hence the wiring as described above. When switched on, only the left hand side does anything, and that just defrosts 2 'lines worth' of screen which is appx half way across the left hand side. I've ensured there is no earth leakage on the +ve wire, and the earth on the other side is perfect. I then disconnected the wires from the tabs and ensured continuity across the heater element - and that works perfectly with a zero ohm reading. I then double checked there was no other earth connection from the screen - just to rule out any weirdness from a rogue earth somewhere. Can anyone suggest any thoughts around this, or do I assume the screen has somehow developed a fault and needs replacing? |

OK many thanks - I was expecting as much.
I was just surprised that I still had continuity through the wires on the screen between the left and right connectors - I was expecting the element to 'break' - and hence break the connection - but if you've had the same issues, then a new screen it is. |

I think/assume it’s the wires going up and down the screen as they are so fine. I’d presume they’d be feed off a heavier gauge wire and hence why you still get continuity across the screen …… but I’m no expert just a guess

Just replaced a pilkington, but also had it with nordglass. I’ve currently got the same issue in the wife’s RR

Mine was also a Pilkington. My replacement is a new Pilkington, still with the connectors at either side, but no split screen divider in the middle. This is much better as you don't get a line down the middle of the screen. I have to say it's been fantastic over the last couple of weeks! ----------------------------------------------
