The clunking I had also it takes a while for the fox bushes on the rear to settle causing the clunking, you could of course remove the lower bush cups 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

That’s interesting, the clunk does appear to be getting better with use. Are you saying the domed washers on the shock are colliding with the cups on the axle?

It’s fairly common to cut the cups off as the washers will hit them on occasion.

Yes my bushes took about 6 months to stop knocking on big bumps I didn’t remove cups as didn’t know this at the time 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Suspension clunk fixed
Thanks for the suggestions, i since found a thread on here with someone experiencing the same issues using fox shocks on the rear. I ordered superpro lower rear shock bushes and new oem washers - part number RYF500230.

I spotted one of the lower chassis cups that the lower bushes sit in has split, so thins was perhaps why the clunking improved with use!

OEM washers needed the centre hole opening out by 0.5mm to go over the fox shock absorber, and then assembled with the washers opposite way round to oem as per superpro instructions.

Quick test drive and the clunk is gone!

Started a fuel supply overhaul today. Switching to an in-tank BMW pump and swapping the land rover filter for a BMW one.

First job is to gain access. I’ve dropped the tank previously when I’d convinced myself the old 2.4 had diesel bug (actually the recon hpfp was failing) so I knew I wanted to cut an access hatch in the floor instead.

As mine was a 2.4 puma there’s no existing electric pump in the tank but looking at the sender it should be straightforward to fit the bmw one. There’s also a spare couple of pins on the level sensor plug which I might use, just not 100% convinced how happy they’ll be carrying a relatively high current.

Cover plate to go over the hole in the floor is painted and now drying. Need to measure and order fuel hose as I’m going to replace the LR nylon lines - I don’t want unnecessary joints where the Landrover filter has been removed.

Busy couple of weeks on the defender. Started with some towing taking the M3 over to the folks for storage until summer. Tows amazing with all that torque and 8 gears.

Diffs and transfer case had an oil change, also checked the level on the ZF 8 speed.

I've remade all the power steering pipes, here's the only one that really needed it due to a split, 16mm banjo crimped on for the BMW steering pump

Last weekend took it down to the 4x4 expo on the MW Machines stand, i don't think Marcus stopped talking all day.

Also delved back into coding my OLED display, its now reading and displaying engine coolant temperature off ECU CAN. Got it requesting further data off the ECU using the OBD2 protocol but it wasn't massively reliable and i didn't have my CAN interface to hand to see what was going wrong. For not its just reading the stream that the ECU continuously sends for the BMW dashboard.

Last job today was adjusting the steering tie rod to centre the steering wheel which, for an unknown reason, moved off centre when i refreshed the suspension.

Been out for an extended test drive and its going like a train, still got a slight death wobble despite getting the wheels rebalanced, i think i need to check swivel preload, but in reality i need to rebuild them as they're leaking and possible have never been done in 165k miles 13 years.

Would be very interested to get a draggy on it to see what the 0 - 60 MPH time is. Wouldn't like to guess but its kind of ridiculous launching off the transbrake and in one of the more aggressive gearbox maps i think it's changing gear somewhere between 100 and 200 milliseconds.

Yep going great thanks, got the wobble sorted, new swivels and bearings improved but didn’t solve it, third time lucky on the wheel balancing got it finally sorted. Picked up another 8hp to replace the current one that got shagged by the previous gearbox controller, get that in sometime this summer. Getting the last few bits together for a revised air intake to release a few more ponies.

Hi Mo, yes swapped it over last month. Shifting issues now gone and steady improvements coming as the controller software evolves. Now tracking down an annoying drivetrain noise/vibration that’s proving tricky to find, it never ends!

M57n and 6hp will be a good swap, that was my original plan and I even had a donor car ready to go until things escalated during lockdown.
