Differences between European and South African defenders
I’m in the process of buying a 130 that was originally from South Africa, it’s a 2006 TD5, I’m just wondering if what or any changes were made to them for the South African market compared to European market?

The engines differ in that they lack the European emissions control equipment. They had a different designation to the 15P that was standard over here but I can't remember what the letter was. Darren

Were emissions even important in 2006?

SCNR

ok, so EU emission rules started in 1992 and from 2003 all Diesels have an OBD2 port to check emission parameters.

I can vouch for that! Here in SA we do not have salted roads, and inland the air is relatively dry. Even 30 year old LR's generally look better underneath than a 5 year old UK one.
