Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
faulty ipod connector on puma radio
I have tried 3 different leads to connect the wife's ipod to the aux socket on the front of the radio. It doesn't grip the 3.5mm jack plugs and they just pop out.
I just wondered if anyone else has come across this and if so is it fixable or is it a new radio jobbie ? The dealer is 60 miles away so I wouldn't bother going unless there were other things to attend to and it won't be due a service until well into next year. Thanks

The socket is recessed into the front panel of the radio, so a standard jack plug body is too big to insert fully. A genuine Apple lead or similar small diameter plug will insert properly.

Hey just found a small diameter connector in a box of assorted crap in the cupboard under the stairs and it works a treat. Blackwolf you're a star ! Smile

Maybe I'll give that a try too!

Tried 3 leads including an Apple one and only get music through the right hand side speakers 90% of the time - its has worked through all speakers but only once!

New stereo added to the wishlist!

Ah, that is the other problem with the standard LR unit - the socket fills up with crud and makes a poor connection. Mine was like that to start with, but jiggling the connector gently would give me stereo. Now I always leave the lead plugged into the fascia even if I remove the iPod, and it seems to be getting more reliable as time goes by. It might be possible to clean contacts by revolving the end of a matchstick or similar in the socket.

Another advantage of leaving it plugged in is that it is possible to tuck the lead into the panel joins and run it down to the cubby area, thus reducing marginally the chance of an unexpected unplugging when changing gear.
