New battery does not go into trickle mode with Ctek
Finally replaced my factory provided starter battery with a Yuasa YBX5019

When it arrived I set it to charge in the house with the Ctek MS 5.0

Left it for a week but it never went past stage 7, green battery to stage 8 - trickle charge

Anyone know why this is the case?

Internet reading suggests it may need up to 10 days on stage 7 before going to stage 8

Doesn't sound like a problem - Stage 7 is "Fully Charged".

Stage 8 is just gives a pulse when necessary to keep the battery fully charged - it may well be doing it and then dropping back to Stage 7 whilst you are not watching.

Oddly I find that my Yuasa batteries often seem to be 'stuck' on Stage 4 while they are in the vehicle. I wondered if it was the slight current drain (25ma) from the Lodar remote receiver, clock etc, that just keeps the voltage slightly down and fools the charger. When you check it with a meter the battery sits at 14.8V on the charger. ---

Don't measure the battery voltage with the charger on - it is bound to be high.

Disconnect charger and wait a little while then check voltage at battery. Should be about 12.7V or little more. Mine was 12.9V fully charged.

Yes I know that, what I meant was that the slight drain from the 'sleeping' demand might fool the charger by not quite allowing either the voltage to get up to expected level, or the current input to drop to a low enough level for it to deem the battery to be full. Mine all sit at 12.8-12.9 if full and in good condition. ---
