Leaking transfer case
Hi all
Had a new clutch and output shaft fitted last month. There was a leak on the transfer box that I asked to be fixed at the same time. A week later it's leaking again and the Garage are saying it's a different leak and a new transfer box is required. At a cost of £800 plus VAT. Surely an oil leak shouldn't cost this much to fix?

The garage have said it's at the top end of the rear...

Probably time to change garage!

The only cause of a leak which might justify the "replacement transfer box required" comment would be if the leak is due to the enlargement of the holes in the casing which support the second motion (aka idler gear) shaft. There are ways to repair this.

Such a leak wouldn't be coming from the "top end of the rear", however.
