United Kingdom 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
Given the circumstances, that sounds like a good result.

years ago I had someone drive into the back of a mk3 golf auto and punt it down the road a bit and through a garden wall.
Insurance fixed everything but about 9 months later the autobox started to play up. I stomached a full rebuild on the box, but it was never quite the same. I should have got rid as soon as it was back together.

Impossible to prove the accident damaged the box, but it was a well maintained low mileage (40k) car, and the auto box specialists said that the box on those were very reliable, and normally didn't give any issues until into the 'hundreds' of thousands of miles.

Interesting morning. The insurer called to say they have re-valued it and it is now repairable. I asked whether they had factored in checking over the drivetrain. He called back to say they couldn't guarantee the work and therefore it would be a write off, with a valution of........£11,140, which is markedly better than the £5k offered this time last week.

I don't know whether the valuation first offered was an honest mistake. I went overboard with examples of the same spec / age / mileage, proof of purchase, link to the ombudsman dispute resolution etc. Who knows? I'm just relieved at what appears to be a sensible outcome, although I was rather attached to that little 1.4tsi Smile

Thanks for all the info / suggestion, much appreciated.

Huttopia.

No mate, you did the right thing, by getting examples etc. Sometimes they do need a helping hand with valuations etc. I would get it repaired, and then get shot Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
