RobKeay, when you say they don’t like hawthorn that’s a problem as I have a fair bit. I was literally about to place my order and now I’m worried
 it’s a lot of money for something that might not work on my hedges. How much of a problem is it? My cheap as chips Titan 2 stroke copes ok.

We use a 56 for sides only and the tops with the 131. Our 56 has broken three times. But since now only cutting sides and using resin remover it’s been great. The 85 with the longer reach has saved two hours on some of the bigger trimming jobs.
The 131 is a direct replacement to the old petrol combo units. The advantage is you use one engine for all tasks. But it’s very expensive and uses a 200 battery in an hour. So we have two batteries for that one unit. But it runs the strimmer and hedge cutter. But all that will be north of a grand. |

I think it worked out about £1200 for the battery combi with long reach hedge cutter and brushcuttter. That's with 2 200 batts and the slow charger. Too rich for my blood. I only do the hedges 2 or 3 times a year. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

+1 for Kramp resin remover. Great stuff. Are you using battery chainsaws? I've demo'd a bunch of them over the last couple of years but wasn't convinced until I tried the Echo 2500T. I wouldn't be without it now, fantastic pruning saw. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

You’ll get on fine. I am looking at it from my point of view. If it works with us for more than a year it’s mega. Tree surgeons second to scaffolders ruin everything.

We are only using battery strimmers and hedge cutters. But I saw the makita top handle and am tempted to try that. |

Milwaukee do a range of battery operated strimmers and hedge cutters. That way I had an excuse to buy myself an impact wrench as well..... 90 - Gone but not forgotten

Funny you should say that. The Milwaukee combi tool with line trimmer with battery and charger comes with a free hedge trimmer as part of there current Redemption offer. So I stopped ummimg and arghing over Stihl and just ordered that plus an extra battery. Saved myself nearly £200. I already have some M12 products so that was all the excuse I needed to get into M18. I’m sure it won’t be as good as Stihl, but I’ll report back. This whole thread was a bit of a waste of time

I can see batteries make sense for home users like me, but the cost of the really big batteries and the run time limitations must make them hard to justify for pro use. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

We spend thousands on two stroke every year. We have cut our fuel use by 1/4. Using the new style kit has saved hours on several jobs. No spark plugs and other items and servicing. Less vibration and no fumes and the lads like using it.
Yes it was expensive buying several chargers and batteries. |

Daily use we have 18 month old ones. Run to flat then charged back to full. No battery issues so far. They also protect themselves from cold and overheating etc. I believe they are Panasonic. My maths worked out anything over a year we are up over fuel use alone.
The new kma-131r is a beast of a machine. The unit itself if you already have batteries is cheaper than the petrol model. |
