TD5 Starting Issues
Hi,

Td5 has gone from starting on the button to struggling a bit - takes longer sometimes, needing a couple of goes?

Before I go fumbling under the bonnet, any thoughts.

fue pressure, either the pump, the filter or the pressure reg.

put the ignition on and listen by the front wheel for the sounds of rushing diesel, mine did that and it was the pressure reg

Had the same problem a year ago.
Appeared to be the yellow fuel pump relay under the driver's seat. Changing it cured the problem for a while. Put your finger on it while cranking to see if it vibrates. I think it's the second from the rear.
Ultimately turned out to be reduced battery voltage while crankng, causing the relay to 'stutter'.
You may need a new battery. (Mine was six years old.) See if it cures with a second (additional) battery on jump leads.

If it only does this from cold it could also be one or more of the glow plugs.

Bet you its the fuel pressure regulator or starter motor contacts. If its the FPR, take off the black plastic cover from the engine and look for a leak somewhere near the back of the block on the drivers side. If not, it could still well be it. Get it changed. Bit of a crap job to do, but will make all the difference. If its the starter motor contacts, you can get a kit for less than £10 to do it.
