DPF issues
The Puma has been sat up for a few weeks, flat battery, jump started fine. Then sat again for 2 weeks, this time left on trickle charge, battery dead, jump started. Running in limp mode with dfp light on.

Battery was dead so new battery, tried reset faults but persists. Visit to local LR Specialist, to investigate limp mode, caused by DFP forcing limp mode. Can't force a regen, saying low volts but battery tested fine.

Left it with them for further playing but looking like DPF might be f#@!*

Anything else worth trying/looking at? Big Cry

Is there any reason why the dpf may be blocked, ie lots of short journeys, or just starting engine and leaving running on your drive to charge battery lots of times ?

If not I’m wondering what’s triggered this because as long as you usually do regular runs at 60 plus mph on 30 mins journeys it should not be a Full dpf issue .

Perhaps it’s a sensor relating to the DPF or electrical connection between sensor and ECU ? May even be the ECU as sometimes they can be effected by draining batteries or jump starting. Hopefully your indi can diagnose and rectify if it’s one of these issues.

If it is a full DPF all may not be lost as there are specialist companies that can clean them out.

Thanks Ian. I've no reason to think the dpf is full, the light has only just come on once before and a good run cleared it ok and same use now.

My first thought is the jump start has damaged something electrical, but can't see why/how it can damage the physical dpf, so definitely worth looking at the electric elements. Thanks. James

This leaves Three options
1. it’s an ECU problem due to an electrical spike associated with battery failure, jump starting and battery replacement.
2. Sensor failure or sensor electrical connection. It could be that sensor failure or electrical connection failure from the sensor has been getting worse over time, prohibiting a DPF regen happening and the latest restart involving battery change has tipped it over the edge.
3. DPF is full.

in order get them to check 2. Then 1, if not it only leaves 3.

Others will Know better, perhaps Martin. But can you reset the engine ECU to the factory default for your vehicle, as after checking option 2 that would be my next thing to try..

To update and close this thread... all fixed!!

It was worked on over the weekend by the excellent Cult 4x4 . It was reading limp mode forced by blocked dpf filter. Tried forced regen but wouldn't due to low voltage. Test drives, battery boasts, disconnect all auxiliaries, still no joy.

Thanks to Scott and Ben highlighting above thread which described exactly same symptons. John at Cult 4x4 spoke with Chris at CSK bounced ideas about and eventually via the Hawkeye alone it was all resolved.

All it needed was a "Parameters" reset! Not entirely sure what this is or does but it's done the job. Out of limp mode, no regen required, running 100% again.

Huge relief after think I was in for a huge bill for a new DPF. Thanks to all the advice from Def2, Angry Pumas, CSK and especially Cult 4x4!!! Thumbs Up

That’s good to here, I’m assuming the battery problem must have caused the Engine ECU to get mixed up.

I’m wondering if a “parameters” reset or equivalent is available via a Nanocom. The Nanocom has DPF reset and DPF pressure sensor reset as options.

Any one know for sure ?

I can only assume the jump start caused a spike to cause the problem somewhere, ECU I guess.

All I know is it was all done via a Hawkeye and a bit of trial and error. They had tried a DPF reset but it wouldn't due to low voltage. But somewhere deep in the menu they found a parameter reset. They thought the parameters were possibly related to the ECU 'learning' your driving style?

Just pleased it was all sorted without a big bill!! Thumbs Up Bow down James
