That is the filter itself, but thank you Smile

My local mechanic has just changed my plastic housing assembly for a spin-on assembly. Whilst the assembly (from LR) isn't cheap, it was easy to fit. Start to finish including taking numerous phone calls and a test drive, less than two hours. He bought from LR because Bearmach etc had no stock. Oh stuff!

The logic for making the change was two-fold.
Firstly I am oldfashioned enough to think that a smaller filter is nowhere near as good as a larger one, hence the engine should (?) last longer.
Secondly, I was getting fed up with earache about the small black stains on the drive!

Maybe ford decided the spin on were better, I think the 2.2 defenders use metal ones??

Ford decided in favor of the plastic ones like Transit (for environmental questions, waste reduction)

Tata reviewed this issue (like some others) and turned back time ...

Not all 2.2s have the metal filter, my late 2013 2.2 puma has the plastic one. I don’t think I’m helping the environment though as I change my filter every 6k miles or 6 months, whichever sooner, and over the last two years I’ve only covered 4k miles and 2k miles respectively.

..i do change oil and filter every 5-6K km, and after reading this, im wondering, am i paranoid? What are your engine oil change interval folks?
