M57 to puma
Does anyone have any up to date info in an m57 conversion to a tdci.
Toying with the idea of a conversion and the Ls3 seems a bit too mental. The Ford 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 seems to be an option but keep reading the m57 is everyone's ideal conversion if their engine was to go pop.

Anyone done it? Anyone made it work with the puma? And anyone know if you can buy a kit? Or what parts and mounts are needed? Before you ask, no, my engine is fine and will be sold as a low mileage takeout.

Let the fun begin.
Thumbs Up

My plan is to buy the kit from wiseman engineering...

I already have a galv chassis in stock to build it on and just swap the body but haven’t had the time... maybe next year I’ll be in uk enough to get on with it.

There is a Facebook group with loads of info in the pinned pages and people very ready to give help. Most of the companies that do parts for this conversion are members too.
Land Rover and others BMW engine conversions is the name of the group. 2011 130 Utility Body

I've just had my third 2.2 engine fitted to my Defender and while I had investigated the M57 conversions, they all seemed to be based on fitting old engines. Most of those that I could find already had 150,000 miles on them.

Is there a source for new M57 engines?

Also, a quick poke about the BMW forums suggests that BMW engines are just as capable of self-destructing as Ford engines. I decided to stick with what I know, but would be interested for next time.

HP wise I'm not really sure. Pete's BAS remap made the world of difference to the 2.2 so another 100 on top of that would be awesome. Another 200+ on top and I think i'd end up in a ditch. Rolling with laughter
Want it to be fun but reliable. Just wondered what's currently out there professionally.

Smyles_ I'm watching your build thread and loving the color choice. I want to be Stagshaw build no 007. Whistle

Take a look at 4x4Fabrication https://www.4x4fabrication.co.uk/

They do Cummins, LS, and BMW conversions. Very high standard of work.

Inigo I see your point, it's can only get harder to find good M57 engines and a 150,000 mile BMW engine can just as easily go bang as a Ford engine. But the guys who have this conversion, particularly with the auto box say it is absolutely amazing.

And there's always the Merc OM606..........!! 2011 130 Utility Body

I’m in a position of potentially sinking over £1000 into an engine that has already done 80k. The thing I’m am wrestling with is do I pay for the oil leak to get sorted and still have an 80k engine, or do I spend more on a recon M57 install? The last thing I want to do is plough a grand into this engine only for another problem to arise in a couple of months.

It is a risk. But how much is a recon M57? And you would probably need to buy loads of ancilliaries.

The demand created by this conversion has really pushed up the prices of used engines.

I've been researching an engine swap for ages, I'd like to do the Ford 3.2 dCi from Ranger/Transit but the Transit engines are rare and it's hard to get the Ranger one running out of the vehicle apparently. 2011 130 Utility Body
